Darren is the Algologist/Algae Manager for the Pacific Oyster Genomic Selection Project (POGS) in support of the USDA Pacific Shellfish Research Unit (PSRU). Darren cultures all phytoplankton needed for both POGS and other researchers at Hatfield Marine Science Center (HMSC). In addition, Darren advises and supports projects utilizing phytoplankton and filter/suspension feeders within PSRU and HMSC. Darren’s research background includes harmful algae bloom (HAB)-bivalve interactions in addition to transgenerational work with bivalve shellfish.
