Opportunities for Students, Collaborators, and Partners
Overview
The Gurr Lab is a collaborative research group exploring how shellfish respond and adapt to environmental stress—from the cellular to the ecosystem level.
We’re always interested in connecting with motivated students, postdoctoral researchers, and aquaculture professionals who want to bridge fundamental science with real-world impact.
For Students
Graduate Students
Students with interests in integrative biology, aquaculture, molecular physiology, or bioinformatics are encouraged to reach out. Our projects combine experimental work, data analysis, and field collaboration with hatcheries and research institutions.
Funding varies by project and year, but strong applicants are supported in applying for fellowships (e.g., NSF, NOAA, National Academies, or institutional programs).
Undergraduates & Interns
When space allows, the lab hosts undergraduates and visiting scholars to gain hands-on experience in physiology, cytology, or data science. Roles may include hatchery support, image analysis, or transcriptomic data processing.
For Collaborators
We welcome partnerships across academia, government, and industry.
Our team works closely with hatcheries and research centers to translate findings into practical interventions — from conditioning protocols to predictive breeding tools.
If you’re interested in collaborative projects, co-mentorship, or joint proposals, please get in touch through the contact form below or by email.
Current Focus Areas
Early-life programming and hormetic conditioning
Multi-omics and quantitative genetics in bivalves
Predictive phenotyping and performance modeling
Climate resilience and applied aquaculture innovation
