Mark S. Yeats is a Faculty Research Assistant and lab manager of the Calla Lab at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. His research examines the dynamic nature of gene expression across environmental conditions, physiological states, developmental stages, and tissue types in multiple oyster species. His core interests lie in understanding how phenotypic plasticity influences and initiates evolutionary trajectories within and across generations.
Mark is particularly interested in the revival of Lamarckian ideas and how they both complement and challenge modern Neo-Darwinian frameworks. Outside of biology, he is committed to promoting mutual aid—because solidarity matters, even in evolution.
